A system for controlling clutch current of an electromagnetic clutch (2) on release of the accelerator pedal (27) of a vehicle in a low vehicle speed range. The clutch (2) is disengaged when the accelerator pedal (27) is released in the low vehicle speed range, but disengagement of the clutch (2) and reduction of an engine (1) speed are delayed so as to prevent oscillation of the transmission system.
