PURPOSE:To correct a shift in the position of a material to be heated during heating in a floating type heat treating furnace without causing contact with the material by installing a steering chamber divided into plural draft parts, detecting the shift in the position of the material and controlling the volume of air with a system independent of the floating mechanism of the furnace. CONSTITUTION:A material A to be heated is floated by the pressure of air in a floating type heat treating furnace and passed through the furnace. A steering chamber 31 provided with nozzles and divided into plural draft parts 51-53 is installed in the furnace. When the material A inclines to cause a shift in the position, the shift is detected with a sensor and the volume of air from each of the draft parts 51-53 is controlled with a system independent of the floating mechanism of the furnace to return the material A to the regular position.
