PURPOSE:To enhance the conversion efficiency of methanol into hydrogen by allowing the raw gas of methanol and steam flowing in a reaction tube packed with a reformer catalyst and a heating medium to flow in the same direction. CONSTITUTION:The reaction tube 14 packed with the Cu-Zn reformer catalyst 13 is provided in an annulus combustion chamber 19 formed between a furnace casing 12 furnished with a burner 15 at the upper center and an inner cylinder 11, and interposed between the bottom tube plate 16 provided with a mesh plate 21 and the upper tube plate 22. Combustion is carried out by the burner 15, and the generated combustion gas which is the heating medium is sent down-ward through the inner cylinder 11, then sent upward through the combustion chamber 19, and discharged to the outside from an outlet 17 through an outlet pipe 18. Meanwhile, the raw gas consisting of methanol and steam is introduced into the reaction tube 14 from an inlet pipe 25 through an inlet chamber 23, sent upward, reformed by contact with the reformer catalyst 13, and discharged from an outlet pipe 26 through an outlet chamber 24.
