PURPOSE:To avoid the individual differences caused among operators in terms of the contents of a selected free key word by storing the input free key words and then displaying these stored key words on a picture display part when the information is registered and retrieved. CONSTITUTION:An information comparing/sorting circuit 4 extracts free key words including strings and sorts these key words to rearrange them in the order of the Japanese syllabary or alphabetically. Then a sorted free key word list is stored in a free key word list memory 5. While a system control circuit 2 confirms that the comparing/sorting process is through via the circuit 4 and displays the data on the free key word list stored in the memory 5 on a picture display part 7 through a display control circuit 6. As a result, the contents of those free key words are unified and therefore no individual difference is caused with the selected free key word although many different operators register and retrieve information by turns. Thus it is possible to always retrieve the desired information with high accuracy.
