PURPOSE:To improve the discoloration resistance and lubricity of copper covered carbon fibers and to facilitate knitting by electroplating a bundle of carbon fibers with copper in a plating bath contg. a brightener and by coating the copper with a discoloration inhibitor. CONSTITUTION:When a bundle of carbon fibers is covered with copper by electroplating in a plating bath, a brightener is added to the plating bath before the plating. A copper sulfate bath, a copper pyrophosphate bath, a copper cyanide bath or the like is used as the copper electroplating bath, and a brightener suitable for the bath to be used is added. The copper on the carbon fibers is coated with a discoloration inhibitor such as benzotriazole, triazole or chromate. |
