PURPOSE:To make it possible to perform workpiece carrying and grinding works in a labor saving manner by mounting/demounting the workpiece on/from a magnetic table, which is able to be turned on/off through the supply of a directional current to a surface grinder, as the workpiece is being attracted by a magnetic chuck by means of a magnetic holder. CONSTITUTION:A workpiece is mounted on a magnetic chuck 2 at a mounting position 10 and moved to a fixed point 12 for mounting the workpiece by means of a conveyer. Then, the chuck 2 is attracted by a magnetic holder through the workpiece, and placed on a magnetic table 1 of a surface grinder X, by means of a robot. After turning off the holder and returning same by using the robot, the workpiece is ground with the magnetic table 1 on. After the completion of grinding work, the magnetic table 1 is turned off; the workpiece and the chuck 2 are attracted by the holder and moved to a fixed point 13 for mounting the workpiece, by means of the robot; the workpiece and the chuck 2 are made free by turning the holder off and moved to a demounting position 11 through the conveyer; and the workpiece is then demounted from the chuck 2 by turning the chuck off.
