PURPOSE:To enhance the abrasion resistance of a platen roll, to make the surface thereof hard to receive a contaminant and to manufacture said roll inexpensively, lightly and precisely, by forming at least the surface of the roll from an almost white hard resin having high surface reflectivity and high smoothness. CONSTITUTION:A platen roll 1 is molded using a white resin having high reflectivity (in other words, a good light blocking property) and high surface smoothness (in other words, low friction coefficient) such as a vinyl chloride thermoplastic resin or PET (polyethylene terephthalate resin). Because this roll 1 has high surface hardness, said roll is contacted with a platen in line contact or opposed thereto so as to provide a gap almost equal to the thickness of a manuscript and rotates so as to impart no feed resistance to the manuscript and to make the surface speed thereof equal to a manuscript feed speed. Therefore, as compared with a conventional case using silicone rubber, abrasion resistance is enhanced and a contaminant is hard to adhere to the surface of the roll and, further, the roll can be manufactured inexpensively, lightly and precisely. |
