PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic recording medium wherein durability in environmental conditions of a wide range is improve by arranging the high-concn. layer of an element selected from among V, Zr, Nb and B on the surface of columnar crystal of a Co alloy thin film. CONSTITUTION:The high-concn. layer of an element selected from among V, Zr, Nb and B is arranged on the surface of columnar crystal of a Co alloy thin film. In other words, a granular projected layer 2 consisting of high molecular latex coated on the surface of a high molecular film 1 such as a polyethyleneterephthalate film is regulated to 1 million pieces/mm<2> particle density, and in a magnetic recording layer 3 consisting of a ferromagnetic metallic thin layer, the high-concn. layer of the element selected from among V, Zr, Nb and B is arranged on the surface of columnar crystal of the side abutted against a magnetic head and a vapor deposition film 4 of myristic acid is formed thereon.
