PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of the read signal for, especially, recording and reproducing by allowing two recording and reproducing elements to face one track of a magnetic recording medium and directly using a reproduced signal to control positions of recording and reproducing elements while reading out recorded data from two recording and reproducing elements. CONSTITUTION:A read waveform (a) is obtained when relative positions of a magnetic head 1 and a magnetic disc are accurate as shown in a figure a', but a read waveform (b) is obtained if said relative positions are deviated as shown in a figure b'. That is, the amplitude of the read waveform on one of ring heads 3 and 4 is larger and that of the other is smaller. In case of the figure b', the amplitude of the read waveform of the left ring head 3 is larger and that of the right ring head 4 is smaller. If amplitudes of read waveforms are unbalanced in this manner, amplitudes of waveforms are compared with each other by a comparing circuit 10, and a head driving control signal generating circuit 9 generates a head driving control signal on a basis of the comparison result.
