PURPOSE:To measure halogen or a halogen compound intermittently and continuously with high sensitivity and good reproducibility, by controlling the exposure quantity of halogen to the surface of a platinum anode. CONSTITUTION:A sensor is constituted of an anode 1 formed by winding a platinum wire coil 2 around a ceramic bobbin 3 and a platinum cylindrical cathode 4 surrounding said anode 1. The anode 1 is heated by a heating power source 5 and high voltage is applied between the anode 1 and the cathode 4 from a high voltage power source 6 and output voltage V due to the cation current of an alkali metal promoted by a halogen compound is measured. When the concn. of halogen or the halogen compound in specimen gas is same, a specimen introducing time is shortened by 0.05-4sec, pref., 0.6-2sec so that ion current outputs at measuring times different before and after show a substantially equal peak value and a specimen introducing interval is made long by 1sec or more, pref., 30sec-10min to avoid the effect due to the introduction of the previous halogen compound-containing gas at the later introduction time of the specimen gas. |
