PURPOSE:To visually confirm whether an optical sensor is operated, by a method wherein the light transmitting through an optical fiber is set to visible light and the light emitted from said fiber when the optical sensor is operated is reflected to be made visible from the outside of an optical sensor housing. CONSTITUTION:A gap is provided between the leading ends of optical fibers (FB) 1a, 1b and the optical axes of both fibers are allowed to coincide using a V-groove 6 and the parts separated from the FB leading ends are fixed to the groove 6. At the time of ambient temp., the compression force of a coil spring 3 is larger than that of a shape memory alloy 4 and, therefore, a push rod 2 is pushed down and, because said rod 2 is not brought into contact with FB1b, the optical fibers 1a, 1b are coupled optically. At high temp., the compression force of the spring 3 becomes larger than that of the alloy 4 to push up the rod 2 and, at the same time, the rod 2 pushes up FB1b to optically cut off the optical fibers 1a, 1b. At this time, light is emitted from FB1b and reflected by the groove 6 to advance along light 7. Because the light emitted from FB1b is visible light, by providing a window comprising a glass plate 10 to the upper part of a housing 9, the light reflected by the groove 6 and emitted from FB1b can be visually confirmed.
