PURPOSE:To make the start-up of hot water supply temperature fast and eliminate variation in the hot water supply temperature when a hot water supply valve is opened or closed by conducting temperature sensing and supplying a constant amount of fuel which matches a load amount by selection of an usage mode. CONSTITUTION:When a hot water supply cock is opened, water flows into a heat exchanger 15 and a water flow switch is turned ON to pen a solenoid valve 14, igniting a burner 11 and heating the heat exchanger 15. In this first hot water discharge, the temperature of the water flowing into a hot maker is assumed to be highest and a controller 9 operates a proportional control valve 13 following an instruction from a usage mode switch 21 on an operation panel 20. In detecting the temperature of the intake water the hot water supply cock 22 is opened to let the water flow for a few seconds, and then its temperature is detected. The temperature thus detected is input into the memory of the controller 19. This stored intake water temperature is used for setting a load heat quantity when the device is used next time, and a valve opening which matches the load is given as an instruction to the proportional control valve 13.
