PURPOSE:To prevent the lowering in printing quality due to printing shift in printing after standing at low temp., in such a case that the printing operation is stopped at a set temp. or less for a set period or more by the signals from a temp. sensor and a timer at the point of time when printing operation is started, by performing the succeeding printing of a certain set number of lines in a single direction. CONSTITUTION:In a serial printer, a control part 1 having a temp. sensor 2 detecting the temp. in the vicinity of a carrier having a printing head mounted thereon and a timer 3 monitoring a printing operation stop period inputs the temp. signal 21 from the temp. sensor 2 and the stop signal 31 from a stop time monitor timer 3 to output a single direction printing command signal 11 to a printing driving part 4 and outputs a monitor start signal to the stop time monitor timer 3 after the completion of the printing operation of one line while the monitor timer 3 detects the monitor start signal 12 to output a stop signal after the elapse of a certain set time. The control part 1 outputs the single direction printing command signal 11 and subsequently resets the same when a certain set number of lines are printed without detecting the stop signal 31.
