PURPOSE:To obtain an optical recording member which is less deteriorated by humidity and has good weatherability by forming a protective layer in such a manner that the ends of the protective layer on the substrate side and the protective layer provided on a recording film contact each other and thoroughly covering the side face of the thin recording film with the protective layer. CONSTITUTION:A PMMA resin substrate is used for the substrate 6. A thin SiO2 film is formed as a thin film layer 1 to improve the adhesive power between the substrate 6 and the lower protective layer 2 on said substrate by a reactive sputtering method. A thin Si3N4 film 2 is thereafter formed thereon to a prescribed thickness and the thin SiO2 film is formed as a thin film layer 3. A thin Te-Ge-Sn-O recording film 4 having the property that the temp. thereof is increased by the photoirradiation and that the optical constant thereof is thereby changed is formed thereon by an electron beam method and further the Si3N4 of a prescribed thickness is formed thereon as the upper protective layer 5 by the reactive sputtering method.
