PURPOSE:To efficiently heat a substrate or the like without an external device like a heating heater by using an electrode on the substrate as a heating heater for a liquid crystal whose molecules are oriented at the charging time and by the temperature gradient method like a ferroelectric smectic liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A transparent electrode 2 is provided on a glass substrate 1 and has end parts 3 plated with nickel or the like. Terminals on both sides are short-circuited for the purpose of using the transparent electrode as the heating heater, and they are plated with nickel or the like for the purpose of improving the conductibility in these parts. The liquid crystal is put in a charging hole, and a voltage is applied between both terminals to liquidify the liquid crystal by heating of the transparent electrode, and the liquid crystal is charged, and thereafter, the short-circuit part between both terminals is cut. Since the transparent electrode is used as the heating heater in this manner, it is unnecessary to provide a heating heater independently, and this method can be used for the liquid crystal which is oriented by temperature gradient. |
