PURPOSE:To easily display a matrix element, by separating and storing individual data of a matrix in the separating means of a character storing means, and storing only a pointer group which indicates the address of the data in a pointer storing means in a matrix form. CONSTITUTION:A matrix displaying display device consists of a reference command generating means 12, a pointer storing means 13, a character string storing means 14, and buffers 11 and 16, etc., and displays an indicated data by a display controller 17 on a display 18. In this way, the reference command generating means 12 takes out a pointer from designated (row, column) in the buffer 11 by starting up a character string take out means 15, and the pointer storing means 13, and takes out the character string in the character string storing means 14 from the address, then outputting it to a buffer 16. At such a time, when the character string is larger than the width of a designated string, the character string is cut by the length. Also, the character string is displayed on the CRT18 by executing a reference command in the buffer 16.
