PURPOSE:To shorten the time of access to file label information by putting the file label of a temporary file on a memory and then referring to and updating file label information on the memory. CONSTITUTION:A temporary file base allocating/releasing means 6 secure a file area on a shared space 3 as much as required and registers label information for controlling the name and position of a file in a label information storage means 5. When the label information is confirmed by a file label information input/output means 7, the volume content table in a storage volume 1 is not referred to and the file name of the temporary file is used as a key to read the label information out of a label information storage means 5 and pass it to a job. Further, when an update request for the label information is inputted from the job to a file label information input/output means 7, corresponding label information is the label information storage means 5 is updated.
