PURPOSE:To improve the detection accuracy and the detection ability of a vehicle speed signal by providing the means for comparing the vehicle speed with a setting level and the means for deciding that the vehicle speed detecting means is in abnormal condition if the vehicle speed is lower than the setting level. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle speed sensor 22 detects the speed of a vehicle, while a rotation sensor 20 detects the rotation of a vehicle engine 1. A control circuit 25 executes the fuel injection quantity control of a fuel injection valve 26, the ignition timing control of an ignition plug 18, etc. based upon respective detection signals. An abnormality decision means for deciding that the vehicle speed sensor 22 is abnormal if the vehicle speed detected by the vehicle speed sensor 22 is lower than a setting level is provided in the control circuit 25. In such a manner, the detection accuracy and the detection ability of vehicle speed signal can be improved.
