PURPOSE:To recover Cr2O3 in molten slag in the form of Cr without using a costly reducing agent such as Al and Si by adding a crude Cr-contg. molten steel of high carbon to the molten slag contg. the Cr2O3 generated at the time of decarburization refining of the Cr-contg. molten steel at a high rate and reducing the Cr2O3 in the molten slag by C in the crude Cr molten steel. CONSTITUTION:The melt of a high-carbon and high-Cr steel contg. >1.5% C is refined to low carbon of about <0.06% C by decarburization reaction using oxygen blowing in an AOD furnace. The Cr in the high-Cr steel is oxidized in the process of the decarburization reaction to form molten slag contg. Cr2O3 at a high ratio. The melt of the high-Cr steel subjected to decarburization refining is tapped and the high Cr2O3- content molten slag is left in the furnace. The melt of another high-carbon high-Cr steel is added thereto to reduce the Cr2O3 in the molten slag by the C in the molten high-Cr steel and is recovered into the molten steel. Such steel is subjected to decarburization refining and is tapped; at the same time, the high-Cr2O3 molten slag formed during the decarburization reaction is reduced by the C of the high-carbon high-Cr steel by the method similar to the above-mentioned method. The Cr2O3 in the molten slag is recovered in the form of Cr by repeating such reaction without using the costly reducing agent such as Al and Si.
