PURPOSE:To mount a fuel filter having a sufficient filtering area and sufficient strength, by mounting the fuel filter to be fixed to a fuel suction passage and an overflow port and holding filter members of the fuel filter to be fixed in holders in a condition that the filter members are tilted. CONSTITUTION:A fuel suction passage 50, communicating with a plunger pump chamber 110, and a solenoid valve 30, which allows fuel in the plunger pump chamber 110 to overflow through an overflow port 110a, are provided. Fuel filters 80, 90 are fixedly mounted to the fuel suction passage 50 and the overflow port 110a. Filter members 800 of these fuel filters are fixedly held in holders 810, 820 in a condition that the filter members 800 are tilted with respect to a diametric section of the fuel suction passage 50 or the overflow port 110a. In this way, a fuel injection pump, to which the fuel filters having a sufficient filtering area and sufficient strength for both directional flows of fuel are mounted, can be attained.
