METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR SEALING TUYERE DURING BLOWING DOWN OF BLAST FURNACE

PURPOSE:To permit simple and easy hermetic sealing of a tuyere by inserting an annular packing into the tuyere, strongly pressing the packing with two sheets of plate materials and changing the same in the diametral direction of the tuyere at the time of sealing the tuyere during blowing-down of a blast furnace. CONSTITUTION:Two sheets of the plate materials 1a, 2a are inserted into the tuyere (b) and the annular heat-resistant packing material 3 consisting of a core material 3a composed of resilient ceramic fibers and ropes 3b woven of stainless steel wires is set therebetween at the time of sealing the tuyere during blowing-down of the blast furnace. The plate material 1a is attached to an inside pipe 1 and the plate material 2a is fixed to an outside pipe 2a. The spacing between the plate materials 1a and 2a is powerfully narrowed by moving the inside pipe 1 relative to the outside pipe 2 to expand and deform the packing 3 in the diametral direction of the tuyere (b) to close the tuyere (b). The tuyere is thoroughly and hermetically closed without requiring much personnel and time as in the conventional practice.
