PURPOSE:To obviate troubles during diameter reduction working, by combining a core body as the third element with an in situ rod and by subjecting the resulting composite body to diameter reduction working prior to diffusion heat treatment in a state where the metallic elements in the in situ rod and the third element are not allowed to react with each other. CONSTITUTION:The in situ rod 1 having a structure in which many pieces of Nb fibers 2 are dispersedly arranged close to each other in a Cu-Sn alloy matrix 3 is prepared. This rod 1 is subjected to diameter reduction, and further, a coating member 5 composed of Ti which is the third element improving the critical current value of Nb3Sn in a high magnetic field region is applied to the outside of the rod 1. Then the outside periphery of the above is coated with a tubular body 4 composed of Cu or Cu-Sn, which is subjected to diameter reduction to be formed into a composite wire base. Subsequently, a Sn plating layer 6 is formed on the outside periphery of the above to be formed into a plated composite wire 7, which is subjected to diffusion heat treatment to be formed into a superconducting wire T.
