摘要 PURPOSE:To form the titled device capable of deflect waveguide light two-dimensionally, and small in size, by providing a diffraction grating for turning back a diffracted waveguide light and diffracting it so as to advance to a substrate side, and providing the second deflecting means for deflecting the turned-back waveguide light in the laminating direction of the substrate and the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:A surface acoustic wave 16 advances in the direction as indicated with an arrow B on the surface of an optical waveguide 11, and advances so as to cross the acoustic wave 16, but in that case, it is brought to Bragg diffraction. A deflected waveguide light 21 is coupled to an aggregate diffraction grating FGC 15, and changed to a wave what is called a backward wave and turned back toward a substrate 12 side. The light beam 21 which is made incident into the substrate 21 passes through a pair of electrodes 17a, 17b and a part opposed to their gap, but changes its light refractive index by receiving the heat by an electric field, therefore, refracted in the direction as indicated with an arrow D. The light beam 21 which is emitted from an end face 12a is deflected continuously in the direction as indicated with an arrow Y, and also, by a diffraction by the surface acoustic wave 16, the light beam concerned 21 is deflected continuously in the direction as indicated with an arrow X, too, in the outside of the substrate 12. Accordingly, when a body to be scanned 25 is placed in a position where this light beam 21 is irradiated, the body to be scanned concerned 25 is scanned two-dimensionally by the light beam 21.
