RAW YARN FOR ARTIFICIAL TURF

PURPOSE:To provide a raw yarn for artificial turf composed of a thermoplastic resin, having partially different thermal shrinkage in cross-section, capable of developing crimp after tufting and giving an artificial turf exhibiting soft feeling resembling natural turf. CONSTITUTION:The objective raw yarn for artificial turf can be produced e.g. by the coextrusion of a thermoplastic resin (e.g. a vinylidene chloride resin) having a thermal shrinkage of 5-20% at 100 deg.C and another thermoplastic resin having a shrinkage of 15-50% at 100 deg.C. The cross-section of the raw yarn is usually a rectangular form with round corners or an elliptic form and the length of the long side or major diameter is preferably 0.3-0.5mm and the short side or minor diameter is preferably 0.05-0.15mm. The color feeling of the turf can be varied e.g. by coloring a part of the cross-section of the raw yarn with high-green color and the residual part with dark-green color.
