PURPOSE:To enhance brightness and sensitivity and suppress fading, blushing and decoloration, by using a combination of dimethyl 4-hydroxyphthalate and/or a specified p-hydroxybenzoic acid ester derivative with a specified gallic acid derivative as a color developer. CONSTITUTION:A combination of dimethyl 4-hydroxyphthalate and/or a p- hydroxybenzoic acid ester derivative of formula (I), wherein R1 is a 1-8C alkyl, cycloalkyl or substd. or unsubstd. aryl or aralkyl, with a gallic acid derivative of formula (II), wherein R2 is hydrogen, a 1-4C alkyl or halogen, is used as a color developer, in a thermal recording material provided with a color forming layer comprising a leuco dye and the color developer as main constituents on a base. The derivative of formula (I) has high thermal response characteristics, and ensures that developed color images are excellent in uniformity of density. With the derivative of formula (II) jointly used, image deterioration due to fading or blushing is suppressed. |
