The pieces made of cast iron are withdrawn from their mould immediately after the material has become rigid and are then heated by induction to temperatures above approximately 850 DEG C, preferably between 1000 DEG C and 1050 DEG C, and are cooled with air. The very rapid heating results in a saving in energy and a conversion of the carbides over a very short time. <IMAGE>
