PURPOSE:To indicate a proper fixed date of the maintenance inspection of a fume transmissivity (VI) meter without adding any hardware by incorporating the analog sampling, averaging, and comparing routines of the VI meter. CONSTITUTION:The VI meter 1 consists of a light emission part 2 and a light reception part 3, light emitted by the light emission part 2 is scattered by exhaust gas, and the photodetection part 3 detects how much the light attenuates. Its analog detection signal is inputted to a computer (CPU) 5 through an input/output device 5. The input analog signal is processed by the CPU 5. Namely, sampled data are all stored in a storage device and their VI means value is calculated at intervals of one week or one month, thereby deciding the transition of the VI mean value. If the VI mean value decreases continuously >=2 times, it is decided that the VI meter 1 need to be repaired and a repair guidance display is made to a customer engineer through a device 4.
