PURPOSE:To detect the adaptability between a disk board and a device body, and the surface and the reverse side, etc., of the disk board, by providing an identifier on right and left asymmetrical positions, and providing a sensor for reading the identifier, on the inside of the body. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is provided with a cartridge case 1, an identifier 2, a shutter part which slides to the right and left, an opening part 4 for exposing a storage part of a disk board, a left side limit switch 5, an a right side limit switch 6. In case the limit switches 5, 6 are both a cartridge case for showing an on-state, it is a cartridge having no identifier, it is judged that there is no adaptability to a recording and reproducing disk device body, and the subsequent operation is discontinued. Also, in case the left limit switch 5 and the right limit switch 6 are off, and on, respectively, the adaptability between the disk board and the recording and reproducing disk device body is OK, and also, it is decided that the surface A of the disk has been inserted. In this way, the adaptability of the disk device and the disk board can be judged, and the device body is not damaged.
