PURPOSE:To prevent dusting of an ink from occurring due to wrinkles of an ink ribbon and prevent noise from being generated from upward or downward movement of an ink ribbon cassette, by shifting the ink ribbon up and down by only driving a support member for the ink ribbon. CONSTITUTION:In a stand-by condition, a pin 15a on the side of a frame 3 and a pin 13a of a turnable frame 11 are located respectively at inner ends of cam grooves 16a, 14a. When a motor is rotated to rotate a cam 14 clockwise through a gear 18 and to rotate a cam 16 counterclockwise through a belt 17, the pins 13a, 15a are moved along the cam grooves 14a, 16a to reach intermediate points A', A of the cam grooves, respectively. As a result, an upper-stage part of an ink ribbon 5 is opposed to a type part of a type wheel 7, and upper- stage printing can be performed. On the other hand, when the cams are further rotated to move the pins 13a, 15a respectively to points B', B, the tip of the frame 11 is moved upward, the ink ribbon 5 is also moved upward, and a lower- stage part of the ribbon 5 is opposed to the type part of the type wheel 7, so that lower-stage printing can be performed.
