PURPOSE:To reduce the inconvenience that a recording position differs form each color by providing a tip detecting means for detecting the tip of recording paper and a means for controlling a recording start position by the tip detection means. CONSTITUTION:A thermal head 101 is a recording head where plural heat resistors are provided as a heat element, and a image sensor 114 is provided with plural photodetectors and reads an image of recording paper 120 formed by a lens 113. A color sensor 102 detects the color of an ink sheet 121, outputs the result to a control section 103 and plural hat-melt or hat-subliming color are painted on the sheet 121 sequentially in the carrying direction. The control section 103 applies a picture signal to record the tip image of the recording paper 120 appearing in a prescribed bit of the sensor 114 to the head 101, the result is given to the sheet 121 and is recorded in a corresponding color. Thus, the recording paper 120 is carried in the forward direction to apply the recording of the 1st color, then the paper is carried in the reverse direction, the 2nd and subsequent colors are recorded similarly to prevent color mis-alignment.
