PURPOSE:To optimize the component inspection frequency of an automatic electronic component mounting machine and to make a secure check on defective components and improve the mounting speed and availability by providing the standards of characteristics of components previously and comparing inspection results with permissible ranges. CONSTITUTION:Inspection contents, reference values, permissible ranges, etc. of respective components are set previously for the component inspection of the automatic electronic component mounting machine. Then, a component cassette 19 is moved, a mounting head 16 takes a component out of the component cassette 19, and then data obtained by totalizing inspection results obtained so far are referred to, thereby determining whether or not inspection is performed on the basis of variance, etc., among measured values of respective components. When the inspection is omitted, an XY table 17 is sent to a mounting position to mount the component. When the inspection is performed, on the other hand, a component inspection part 18 inspects the component that the mounting head 16 holds and the inspection results is compared with a set reference value to decide whether the component is normal or not and also totalize the inspection results by components.
