PURPOSE:To always attain stable tracking control by providing an off-track detection means detecting that a light beam is deviated from a track on a recording medium. CONSTITUTION:If dust or dirt exists on a disk or an external vibration or shock is exerted to the device with a RAM 15 in the storage state, the tracking control is disturbed and a large off-track signal is generated in a differential amplifier circuit 10. The off-track signal is inputted to a comparator 40, which outputs a lowlevel signal when the inputted off-track signal (Vi) has a prescribed value or over. Since an information processing control circuit 32 stores a signal of the tracking control system in the RAM 15 again, the circuit 32 outputs a low/high level pulse signal (line MST) to a pulse generating circuit 29. Thus, the always stable and highly accurate tracking control is attained.
