PURPOSE:To prevent effectively damage to a head and a disk due to the absorption between the head and the disk by providing a retaining mechanism operated independently of an actuator. CONSTITUTION:A lever 6 prolonged in a direction nearly orthogonal in the prolonged direction of a suspension 2 is moved in parallel in the prolonged direction of the suspension 2 to depress the suspension 2 to part a head slider 1 from a disk 4 independently of the actuator. A caption 7 is a lever moving mechanism provided fixedly near the peripheral of the disk 4 to control the lever 6 and constitutes the retainer mechanism together with the lever 6. While a fixed magnetic disk device is in standstill, the head slider 1 is parted from the disk 4 by the depression of the lever 6 onto the suspension 2. Thus, the adsorption between the head 1 and the disk 4 is prevented and the damage to the head 1 and the disk 4 due to the rotation of the disk 4 in the adsorbing state is prevented.
