<p>An apparatus for track-based detection of holes or flat spots in passing railway wheels (3) when these are passing a measuring stretch on the track comprises a number of transducers, for example accelerometers (a, b, c, d, e) on the track (4) spaced along the measuring stretch, wheel detectors (7, 8) indicating start and end of measuring on a bogie, data collection and data processing means (9), a carriage identification system (10, 11) and a carriage detector (12). A vibration damping material (5) is applied to the track (4) along the measuring stretch. The basis of the apparatus is that the data processing including identification of wheels with holes and flat spots is not made till the data collection for the last wheel on the last carriage has been completed.</p> |
