The invention relates to a thread cut-off device having a glow wire. To achieve high operating reliability and to avoid endangering an operator, provision is made, for use on machines ejecting the workpiece, especially so-called underpick machines, to arrange the mounting (plates (1, 2), casting material (3)) freely in the ejection region in such a way that a portion (20) of the glow wire (19) extending linearly transversely relative to the direction of ejection (arrow 21) and at least one V-shaped guide portion (18) preceding the said portion (20) respectively face with their free end the ejected workpiece and the thread to be cut off which is connected to it. <IMAGE>
