PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer excellent in heat resistance, rigidity and hardness, by copolymerizing an aromatic vinyl monomer with a branched alpha-olefin in the presence of a specified catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst (C) is obtained by mixing a highly active titanium catalyst component containing Mg, Ti, a halogen and a diester with an organoaluminum compound catalyst component an an organosilicon compound catalyst component having a bond of the formula. An aromatic vinyl monomer (A) is copolymerized with a 5-20 C alpha-olefin (B) having a branch in position 3 or later in the presence of component C to obtain the titled copolymer comprising 10-90mol% component A-derived units and 10-90mol% component B- derived units, having an intrinsic viscosity of 0.5-20dl/g as determined in decalin at 135 deg.C, a MW distribution <=10 as determined by gel permeation chromatography and a ratio (b/a) >=0.8, wherein (a) is the content of component A-derived units in the copolymer and (b) in the content of component A-derived units in the boiling n-heptane-soluble portion of the copolymer.
