PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a die by carrying out electric discharge between the surface of a base material for a die and an electrode made of a wear-or corrosion-resistant material to form a coated layer on the base material. CONSTITUTION:Electric discharge is carried out between a base meterial 1 as a body to be worked and an electrode 7 made of a wear-or corrosion-resistant material such as WC, B4C or TiC. During the discharge, the electrode 7 is in contact and separation motion and sliding frictional motion. A required thick coated layer 6 is formed on the material 1 by the discharge, and the material 1 is worked into a desired shape 5 by electric spark machining, wire-cut electric spark machining or other electric spark cutting process. The resulting die undergoes hardly wear, enables accurate press working, and has a prolonged life. |
