There is a device for cutting elongated pieces 4 of dough in an elongated trough, which can be moved in steps with pauses in the cutting region, a knife 30 being able to reciprocate with respect to the elongated trough as the latter pauses in the cutting region, a cooking shelf 46 with a conveying device 45 being arranged downstream of a cutting device 42 and a cutting restriction being provided. It is desirable for a simplified device for restricting cutting to be provided. This is achieved in that the cutting device 42 is provided with a knife 30 which is arranged at a slant for cutting 43 which is inclined with respect to the perpendicular and in that a device 44, 45 for tipping the pieces 4 of dough through 180@ is provided between the cutting device 42 and the cooking shelf 46. Cutting is kept within narrow limits, as the piece of dough rests on the head during cooking and completes cutting under its own weight. <IMAGE>
