The microwave oven has a microwave oscillator with a high-voltage transformer, a delay element which can be operated by a time switch being provided in order to reduce extreme switching-on current surges, which delay element causes a limiting bias resistor, which is connected upstream of the microwave oscillator, to be bridged over (shorted) once a predetermined delay time has elapsed. According to the invention, two sequence-controlled contacts of the time switch, which switch successively corresponding to the delay time, are provided as the delay element. <IMAGE>
