Process for the cooling of plastic filaments, which emerge as a wall-shaped filament set from a spinneret unit having a plurality of spinnerets lined up singly or multiply in a longitudinal direction, in a cooling shaft between two blowing walls extending in the longitudinal direction. The filament set is blown by cooling-airstreams in the cooling shaft and is removed from the cooling shaft at the bottom. The cooling air is sucked off at the bottom from the cooling shaft. The filament set is blown in the cooling shaft by collision-free cooling-airstreams. Cooling shafts for carrying out the process are also indicated. <IMAGE>
