A tumbling apparatus for smoothing the surface of workpieces is described, in which a roller cage equipped with rollers is fixed on a face of the head region of an elongated housing. A clamping element, which is connected to the housing via a pin which is assigned a spring element, is arranged longitudinally displaceably on the housing. By tensioning and relaxing the spring element, the clamping element is displaced on the housing. By means of an oblique bearing surface on the clamping element, the setting angle with respect to the workpiece to be worked is ensured. By means of radial and axial support of the rollers at the periphery of the roller cage, a largely floating and thus low-friction bearing of the rollers is achieved.
