An erosion shield for an aerofoil surface such as the leading edge of a helicopter rotor blade is manufactured from a cold formable titanium alloy comprising substantially 15 per cent vanadium, 3 per cent chromium, 3 per cent tin and 3 per cent aluminium with the remainder substantially titanium. A method for manufacturing such an erosion shield is also disclosed (Figs. 1-6). <IMAGE>
