PURPOSE:To obtain a composition for oral cavity application having improved retainability in oral cavity and capable of effectively and safely exhibiting the pharmacological effect of active component, by adding an ether compound of glycerol or polyglycerol and an alcohol to a composition containing a drug component. CONSTITUTION:A composition for oral cavity application containing a drug component such as dexamethasone, etc., effective against stomatitis, toothache, etc., is compound with an ether compound of an alcohol and glycerol or a polyglycerol, preferably a compound of formula I or II (R1-R4 are H, 1-24C saturated or unsaturated straight or branched aliphatic hydrocarbon group or aromatic hydrocarbon group provided that at least one of R1-R4 is not H; n is integer of 0-60; n R4 groups may be the same or different). The amount of the compound is 0.001-5wt% based on the whole composition. The above oral composition is hardly soluble in saliva, has high affinity to oral mucosa, is retainable over a long period at a diseased part in the oral cavity to remarkably improve the retainability of the drug component and exhibits sufficient remedying effect. |
