<p>The process and device for the identification of an object with a view to its subsequent marking involves making a small hole in the object into which a magnetic element is inserted. The maximum field emitted by the magnetic element is detected. The coordinates (xa, ya, za) of the element, or of its track with respect to a reference system, are then determined using an articulated system with movable bars (9, 12) and sliding rules 14 so that the said coordinates can be stored with a view to the subsequent identification of the object.
