PURPOSE:To reduce the probability of crosstalk from adjacent tracks at the reproducing time by making the pitch of pairs of reproducing rotary magnetic heads smaller than that of pairs of recording rotary magnetic heads. CONSTITUTION:A track pitch Pp of pairs of reproducing rotary magnetic heads Pa, Pb, Pc, and Pd is made smaller than that of pairs of recording rotary magnetic heads Ra, Rb, Rc, and Rd, namely, a track pitch Tp of inclined tracks. Respective center positions of inclined tracks TAalpha and TBbeta formed on a magnetic tape by insert recording of electronic editing are shifted upward from already recorded inclined tracks TA1, TB1, TA2, TB2, TA3, TB3;.... Thus, crosstalk does not occur when, for example, reproducing rotary magnetic heads Pa and Pb scan inclined tracks TA1 and TB1 while tracking.
