PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of damping device for magnetic disk device by securing an approximately coaxial joint structure centering on the spindle of an actuator for a pressure receiving member and a guide columnar member and setting with compression an elastic pilot pressure member to a joint part. CONSTITUTION:A pressure receiving member 6 and a guide columnar member 5 are set coaxially to each other centering on a spindle 11 of a damping mechanism. Then a joint gap 12 is secured between both members 5 and 6 so that they can slip and an O-ring 8a is put into the gap 12 with compression. Thus the ring 8a produces compression force to restore the downward movement of the member 6 if occurs. Therefore, the center of the member 6 is always coincident with the spindle 11, i.e., a straight line 10 passing the centroid 13 of an actuator 3. As a result, no rotational force is produced in the direction 14 even in a collision mode and therefore no collision occurs between a magnetic head 1 and a magnetic disk 2. Thus the damage of both the head 1 and the disk 2 can be avoided.
