PURPOSE:To raise the information recording density by using local residual polarization due to the pyroelectric effect as information recording and reading out recorded information by the change of the refractive index due to this residual polarization. CONSTITUTION:When a laser bema 18 is locally projected in a spot size, it is made incident on the inside of a recording part 12 through a protective layer 16 and is absorbed in the stage of repeated reflection on lower and upper boundary faces of the recording paper 12, and therefore, the recording part 12 is momently heated. When the recording part 12 is locally heated in this manner, an electric charge is generated by the pyroelectric effect because the recording part 12 consists of a dielectric having the pyroelectric effect; and when the recording part 12 is cooled after heating is stopped, residual polarization due to the electric charge is locally generated in the recording part 12, and information is recorded by this local residual polarization. Recorded information is optically detected by the local change of the refractive index caused by the residual polarization based on an electrooptic effect. |
