PURPOSE:To eliminate the fluctuation of the gap space due to the fastening load of a fixing screw when a head base is fixed to a rotary drum by means of said screw, by providing a relief plane having a difference of level to the fixed plane of the head base at said fixed plane side to the head base so that at least the inner end part of a slit groove is included in the relief plane. CONSTITUTION:A relief plane 14 having a difference of level to the fixed plane 12 of a head base 2 at this plane side is provided to the base 2 so that at least the inner end part 13 of a slit groove 7 is included by the plane 14. Therefore no contact is produced between a rotary drum and at least the part 13 of the groove 7 when the base 2 is fixed by a fixing screw 9. Thus the peripheral stress state of the groove 7 has no change even with the fastening state of the screw 9 and therefore the groove 7 has no change of its own width. This causes no change of the gap space between head chips 3 and 4, which improves the VTR performance after a head is incorporated.
