PURPOSE:To attempt the improvement of a rough road running performance and fuel consumption in the titled device equipped with a viscous coupling for automobiles and the like by constituting a power transmission system to be selected out of a via viscous coupling system and a via detour system. CONSTITUTION:Power is continuously transmitted to front wheels via a front differential device 4 so as to be inputted into a viscous coupling (V.C) 35 of a transmission device 5 via a transfer gear 30. In this case, when a rail 49 is actuated to a 4WD position attached to the V.C, the sleeve 47 of a clutch 45 is released while being meshed only with a hub 46 for transmitting power to rear wheels. And when the rail 49 is actuated to a directly connected 4WD position, the sleeve 47 of the clutch 45 is meshed with a spline 48 too for directly connecting a transfer gear 30 with a transfer shaft 26 whereby the housing 37 of the V.C 35 is rotated synchronously with a hub 36 for disfunctioning the V.C 35 so as to make a directly connected four wheel drive effective. As a result, both a rough road running performance and specific fuel consumption can be improved.
