A "stationary" part of the apparatus,carrying supply and discharge connections, is arranged to partake of the lateral vibrations of the rotating parts of the apparatus to relieve loads on the packings associated with the connections. As shown a frame 1 houses a drive 2 for a spindle 3 carrying a drum 9 which has a neck 17. A sleeve 7 enclosing bearings 4, 5 and 6 (for the spindle) is supported at its upper end in a collar bearing 8 so that it is free to rock laterally in the frame 1. The sleeve 7 is continuous with a bowl and a hood 10. Within the hood, sealing sleeves 11, 12 and 13 seal a supply connection 14 and discharge connections 15, 16 against the neck 17. Where fixed supply and discharge pipes external to the apparatus are provided, flexible intermediate portions 18 to 20 need to be inserted. Specification 844,768 is referred to. |
